One of George Sydney Brock’s innovations while serving as an alderman of Newtown council was the charging of the water carts with disinfectant, improving sanitisation across the suburb.
A CLEANSING THE STREETS.
(TO THE EDITOR OF THE ” AUSTRALIAN STAR.”)
Sir,— Re the paragraph in a recent issue ‘headed “An Excellent Example,” twelve months back, while a member of the Newtown Council, I had all the water-carts charged with disinfectant, which proved during its application to the streets a great advantage ; but, like all new ideas and improvements, I had to bear the expense of the experiment. I, however, showed the great advantage to be gained by such application.
Since I left the council the matter has dropped. — Yours, &c. G. S. BROCK.
