Inspired by Sydney History Week 2021 theme “from the ground up”, this project aims to showcase the patchwork of people and events that have made this location what it is today – a place for community gathering. Through historical images, genealogy records, and other documents sourced from the Sydney City Archives we explore the history of Hollis Park on Warren Ball Avenue (formerly known as L’Avenue) in Newtown, Australia. Once part of the Kettle Estate, remnants of the gate that previously bordered the estate can still be found at the top of Georgina street and on Fitzroy street.
